2014-2024: Scottish Independence And The British State Ten Years On

The following event may be of interest to readers of Independence Captured. This one day conference, taking place on September 14th at Glasgow Caledonian University, will draw together leading thinkers and campaigners to discuss and debate Scottish independence and the British state ten years on from the referendum.

Organised by a range of academics and the online magazine, Conter, the discussions will reflect on the social movement of 2014. The conference will examine its legacy, the predicament of the SNP and the prospects for independence as we move into a new chapter. It will also seek to locate the discussion within the context of contemporary capitalism, shifting class alignments in politics, the British state, a changing Europe and a volatile imperial order.

I will be taking part in a debate with former SNP MP Alyn Smith, in which many of the points made in this newsletter will be put forward. If you would like to attend, it is advised that you register in advance.

Provisional sessions. Further speakers and finalised programme to be announced.
